NTSB LAUNCHES GO-TEAM TO INVESTIGATE ACCIDENT INVOLVING TWO FREIGHT TRAINS IN NORTH DAKOTA

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a go-team to investigate an accident in Casselton, North Dakota where a BNSF grain train derailed and a train traveling in the opposite direction carrying crude oil struck the derailment and derailed. There was a significant post-crash fire. The accident occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. CST today.

Rail Safety Investigator Richard Hipskind will serve as the investigator-in-charge. Board Member Robert L. Sumwalt is accompanying the team and will serve as the principal spokesman during the on-scene phase of the investigation.
