NTSB TO HOST YOUTH OPEN HOUSE IN SUPPORT OF GLOBAL YOUTH TRAFFIC SAFETY MONTH

may 1

As part of Global Youth Traffic Safety Month, the National Transportation Safety Board will host its third annual Youth Open House and Education Day on May 8th from 1:45 pm – 4:00 pm in the NTSB Boardroom and Conference Center in Washington, DC. Board Members will be joined by dozens of teens from the National Organizations of Youth Safety, local area schools and, via satellite, high school students in Michigan, New Jersey, Texas and Illinois.

”The NTSB’s Open House brings together youth leaders, government officials, safety advocates and representatives from industry to help spread the word about the importance of highway safety,” said Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman. “While overall fatalities on our highways are down, teen deaths by traffic crashes are on the increase; we have to do better if we are going to reverse this troubling trend.”

Students will make presentations on driver training and technology, occupant protection, distracted driving and impaired driving. In addition, Mobile Cinema Park, an organization that uses innovative theater experiences to teach youth important life lessons, will provide a 3D program called “Cinema Drive.” “Cinema Drive” targets students during their first years of driving and encourages good decision making and safe driving habits.

Following the open house, the NTSB will hold a media availability that will include a telephone bridge for reporters unable to attend in person. Information on the phone bridge will be forthcoming.

The NTSB Board Room and Conference Center is located at 429 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, D.C. Follow our updates throughout the day on Twitter, @GYTSMNTSB.
