The National Transportation Safety Board today released additional information on the rollover and fire of a cargo tank vehicle that occurred on Interstate 69 Southbound, Indianapolis, Indiana. This new information is released in advance of the NTSB's two-day public hearing set for August 3-4 in Washington, DC.
The rollover accident occurred on Thursday, October 22, 2009, when a 2006 International truck tractor in combination with a 11,600- gallon cargo tank semi-trailer carrying liquefied petroleum gas struck a guardrail on Interstate 69 (I-69). The cargo tank rolled over the guardrail and slid on its right side into the bridge abutment and pillar of an intersecting overpass on Interstate 465 (I-465). The tractor separated from the vehicle and rolled onto its right side and caught fire. The cargo tank sustained a breach, resulting in the release of liquefied petroleum gas, which vaporized and ignited. The ensuing fire involved eight other vehicles and resulted in injuries to the driver of the cargo tank as well as occupants of four other vehicles.
The information being released is factual in nature and does not provide analysis or the probable cause of the accident. The docket includes investigative group factual reports, interview transcripts, and other documents from the investigation. In addition, exhibits to be used during the public hearing will be available on the NTSB's website under "Public Hearings."

Hersman, will begin at 9 a.m. on August 3, 2010, at the NTSB's Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C.
