This three dimensional animation reconstructs the December 8, 2005, landing of Southwest Airlines flight 1248 at Chicago's, Midway Airport, which overran runway 31C. This animation displays information from the flight data recorder, cockpit voice recorder and aerial photograph of the Midway Airport and surrounding area. No attempt has been made to depict weather or visibility conditions at the time of the accident.

The animation uses a dimensionally correct model of a Boeing 737-700 to display aircraft configuration (landing gear down, flaps at 40° , spoiler position) and the motion of the aircraft (pitch, roll and heading) along the derived flight path and ground roll. Selected excerpts from the cockpit voice recorder transcript and selected flight recorder parameters are superimposed as text at the time they occurred. In addition, flight data recorder parameters Brake Pressure (left and right), Engine Thrust (left and right), and Ground Speed are continuously displayed.
