On May 24, 2014, about 1050 central daylight time, a Smythe Kitfox IV experimental, amateur-built airplane, N998DS, impacted terrain after takeoff from a private airstrip near Slaughter, Louisiana. The pilot and passenger sustained minor injuries. The airplane was substantially damaged. The aircraft was registered to and operated by the pilot under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight, which was not operated on a flight plan. The flight was originating at the time of the accident. The intended destination was the Slaughter Airpark (LS77), Slaughter, Louisiana.
