On June 28, 2013, about 1600 mountain daylight time, a Mooney M20K airplane, N5254G, performed a forced landing after a loss of engine power near the Front Range Airport (KFTG) Watkins, Colorado. The private pilot received serious injuries and the airplane was substantially damaged. The airplane was registered to and operated by a private individual under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight, which operated without a flight plan. The flight originated from the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (KBJC), Bloomfield, Colorado, at 1540.
The airplane received damage to the engine firewall area. The airplane’s engine was retained for further examination.
