A SAAB 340, HB-AKK, operated by Crossair, a Swiss regional airline partially owned by Swissair's parent company, as flight 498, crashed at 1803 local time on January 10, 2000, following takeoff from Zurich Airport, Switzerland. The airplane wreckage crater was located about 3 miles from the departure end of runway 28. The destination of the accident flight was Dresden, Germany. There were 7 passengers and 3 crewmembers on board; all were killed.

This accident is being investigated by the Air Accidents Investigation Board (AAIB) of Switzerland. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is assisting with the investigation in accordance with the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.
