On August 30, 1999, at 1614 local time, RP-C473, a Douglas DC-3 operated by Crown Cargo Express, Inc., hit a power transmission line and crashed into a rice field near Santa Rosa, 22 miles south of Manila, Philippines. The airplane was flown by two airline transport pilots; five of the nine on board ustained serious injuries; the remaining four sustained minor injuries. Weather at the time was described as CAVU (ceiling and visibility unlimited). The airplane had departed Fernando Air Base, Lipa City, at 1515, with a destination of Manila. An unconfirmed report said that one person on the ground was also injured by the snapped cable.
The crew reported encountering severe vibration of the right engine, and they were unable to maintain altitude.
