NTSB TO HOLD MEETING ON BUS CRASH NEAR HEWITT, TEXAS


Washington, D.C. -- The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public Board Meeting on Tuesday, July 12, at 9:30 a.m., in its Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, DC.

One item is on the agenda:

On February 14, 2003, a Central Texas Trails motorcoach traveling on Interstate 35 near Hewitt, Texas ran off the road, crossed the median and collided with a Chevrolet Suburban traveling in the oncoming lane. Five motorcoach passengers, the Suburban driver and one passenger were killed in the accident. Safety issues examined in the Board's report include sight distance and speed, roadway and tire friction interaction, the effect of tire tread depth on vehicle stability, and the need for better identification of areas with high risk of wet weather accidents.
