NTSB’s August 22-23 HEARING POSTPONED

In light of Emery Worldwide Airlines’ suspension of air carrier operations, the National Transportation Safety Board has postponed the public hearing scheduled for August 22-23, 2001, at the Safety Board’s headquarters.

The hearing was to be held as part of the Safety Board’s ongoing investigation into the crash of an Emery DC-8 cargo aircraft, on February 16, 2000, near Rancho Cordova, California. However, Emery officials, at this time, need to focus on matters raised by the suspension of the company’s air cargo operations, and the Safety Board will want time to review actions taken by both the FAA and Emery in terms of their relevance to the issues that would be discussed at a public hearing.

A decision on rescheduling the hearing will be made at a future date after Emery has resumed flight operations, which may take several months. In the meantime, the Safety Board’s investigation of the Emery DC-8 crash will continue.
