FREIGHT TRAIN COLLISION IN BUTLER, INDIANA TO BE SUBJECT OF NTSB BOARD MEETING ON JULY 13


The National Transportation Safety Board holds a public Board meeting Tuesday, July 13, at 9:30 a.m., at its headquarters building, 490 L’Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C., 5th floor meeting room.

One item is on the agenda:

The March 25, 1998 collision between a Norfolk Southern freight train and a Conrail freight train in Butler, Indiana. Both locomotives and 5 cars from the NS train derailed, and 3 cars from the Conrail train derailed. The NS conductor was killed. The meeting room is lighted for television, and has an audio mult box.

***Note: Major reconstruction has begun at L’Enfant Plaza that has disrupted normal traffic patterns outside the building. This might affect television trucks that usually park on the plaza, but should not affect pedestrian traffic or those who park in the garage.***
