Information stored about each recommendation includes: 1) recommendation number, 2) date issued, 3) status, 4)date closed, 5) location of accident, 6) date of accident, 7) synopsis of the facts of the accident, 8) actual text of the safety recommendation, 9) recipient of the recommendation, 10) dates and synopses of exchanges of correspondence between the recipient and the Safety Board, and 11) a link to the recommendation letter issued by the Safety Board.

Purpose: The Safety Recommendations Database is used to store information related to each of the recommendations issued by the Safety Board. The Board uses the information for historical purposes during investigation and report writing for new accidents of a similar nature. The information is public information and is given to federal, State and local governments, media personnel, lawyers, consultants, and private individuals.

Agency Program: Public Law 93-633 requires the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate and determine the probable cause of all civil aviation accidents in the United States and to recommend actions that would keep similar accidents and incidents from happening in the future. The Safety Recommendations Database maintains an historical record of all transactions related to the Board's issued safety recommendations.
