NTSB RELEASES IMAGES OF AIRCRAFT THAT CRASHED IN REMOTE MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash of a Piper PA-32-260 (N64FP) near Cruso, North Carolina, on May 12, 2008.  Both occupants of the single-engine plane were fatally injured.  The aircraft wreckage was located at the 4,700-foot level of Cold Mountain on a steep slope in heavily wooded terrain.

The aircraft departed from Rutherfordton, N.C., and was en route to Little Rock, Ark., when the accident occurred at about 5:34 am EDT.   No flight plan was filed for the 14 CFR Part 91 flight.

The NTSB investigator-in-charge is Eliott Simpson. Parties to the investigation are Piper, Lycoming, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Because the remote accident site is inaccessible to news media, the NTSB has released the photographs below.
